Student projects

Rural eMentoring BC understands the power of students! We are always happy to support students who are looking for projects to develop their skills and gain valuable work experience.

Below are some of the opportunities we offer students. Contact us if interested.

Show off your town!

High school students in rural communities: Make a short video, photo journal, or anything else you can think of to show off your town! We will share what you make with next year’s mentors as part of their training.

Pathways to healthcare careers presentations

Do you want to gain public speaking skills and help rural youth learn about your chosen career path? Be a presenter for our Pathways to Healthcare Careers Presentation series.

  • Give a presentation about pathways to your degree program, with a focus on options for rural students, and the joys of rural healthcare.
    • Medical students and pharmacy students: we have a powerpoint presentation – created by students in your program – that you can use.
  • You will be presenting in-person to youth in a BC rural community – most likely at a local school. This is designed to be an immersive opportunity to help you get to know the youth in the community.

Eligibility

This opportunity was originally developed so that students who are on rotation/placements in rural communities can get to know the communities they are placed in. However, we are able to accommodate other presenters on a case-by-case basis.

  • You must be a current student in a health professions program in BC.
  • If you are from a rural community and are going home for a term break, you may present at your local school or to other youth groups/organizations.
  • If you are not from a rural community or on a rural rotation/placement, we have limited funds to allow presenters to travel to rural communities. Please let us know your situation and we will try to accommodate you.

FLEX projects for medical students

Help us bring mentorship opportunities to rural students!

  • Year 1 project: Be ReMBC’s ambassador to the Healthcare Travelling Roadshow: travel with the roadshow and help students and educators join the program.
  • Year 2 project: Program coordinator for our Pathways to Medicine Presentation: be completely in charge of program for the year.
  • Year 4 project: TBD – let’s chat!
  • Want to work with us, but don’t see a project that you’re interested in? Let us know what you’re interested in and let’s figure something out!
